Pray Through Me

This song was 10 years in the making. I think it was around 1998 when I started it, and I didn’t finish the song until 2008. I believe a big part of this is because I was in the making. God had to teach me something about prayer before I could compose something about prayer. He had to show me that I really don’t know how to pray. As the Scripture says,
“The Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Romans 8:26–27 NKJV)
Maybe you feel at a loss when it comes to prayer. I thought I knew how to pray, but God taught me over a 10 year period that none of us really knows how to pray… and that our first prayer should be… Jesus, pray through me.

The good news about prayer is that we don’t pray alone. Jesus is our intercessor (Hebrews 7:25, Romans 8:34). He prays with us, for us, and through us. If you’re struggling to pray, take courage, you are not alone. Jesus prays with you. And if you’ll ask, His Spirit will pray through you.

So ask Him just now, say… Lord, pray through me.

Pray through Me
©2008 Words and Music by James Moon

verse 1
Father I don’t even know how
to speak about this thing
So send Your Spirit now
to come and pray through me

pre-chorus
Oh search the deep recesses of my soul
Let Your Spirit intercede with sighs my words cannot express

chorus
O pray through me, pray through me
Come and plead the deepest needs, You have laid upon my heart
O pray through me, pray through me
Holy Spirit intercede with sighs my words cannot express
Pray through me

verse 2
Oh I lift up my brother now, Come touch His brokenness
With the healing power of your sweet forgiveness
O I lift up my sister now, Come heal her shame
With the awesome power of  Your mighty grace

Bridge
O Jesus, there’s no greater gifter, than to sit at Your side
Than to come and intercede, and plead Your blood for their lives
For the battered and scarred, For the broken and torn
To lift them up to Heaven, in Your Mighty Name my Lord

  1. I love the bridge. "O Jesus, there's no greater gift, than to sit at Your side." This is incredible. Please, never ever stop writing, and letting God's words flow through you!
